Congressman Morgan Luttrell, representing Texas’ 8th district, has recently taken to social media to discuss various issues of national and regional importance. Luttrell, who succeeded Kevin Brady in 2023, is actively involved in addressing veterans' affairs, fiscal accountability within government agencies, and border security concerns.
On December 4, 2024, Congressman Luttrell highlighted a new initiative by the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA), which involves funding research into MDMA-assisted therapy for veterans suffering from PTSD. He expressed his commitment to advocating for this cause in Congress. "The VA is providing $1.5 million in funding to study the efficacy of MDMA-assisted therapy for veterans with PTSD. I’ll continue to be a leading voice in Congress on this critical effort."
In another post dated December 5, 2024, Luttrell raised concerns about the VA's financial management practices. He questioned why the VA was unable to account properly for its funds or provide clear answers regarding a significant budget allocation that remained unspent. "Why can the VA not properly account for their funds or provide a straight answer? The VA requested and received from Congress $2.88 billion to address an end-of-fiscal-year benefits funding shortfall, later revealing this funding was not actually needed & remains unspent."
On December 6, 2024, Congressman Luttrell addressed border security issues impacting Texas. He expressed his intention to collaborate with Tom Homan and former President Donald Trump to enhance border security through technological investments and increased personnel aimed at curbing drug and human trafficking activities. "Texas bears the brunt of our broken border policies. I’m looking forward to working with @RealTomHoman and @realDonaldTrump to secure our border by investing in technology, increasing personnel, and tackling the drug and human trafficking that is running rampant."
