The City of Huntsville is set to receive nearly $2 million in disaster recovery grants from the Texas General Land Office (GLO) related to Hurricane Harvey.

The GLO recently posted a release including an announcement by Texas Land Commissioner George P. Bush of $1,848,750 in Hurricane Harvey disaster recovery grants.

The grants are targeted toward both cleanup and mitigation, such as the clearing debris from the West Greenbriar Drive and River Oaks Drive drainage channels, as well as mitigation construction including erosion control and reinforced culverts.

New roadways and storm sewer inlets are indicated for West Greenbriar Drive from Freemont Drive to approximately 400 feet east along West Greenbriar Drive; River Oaks Drive at Greenbriar Drive; approximately 200 feet southeast along River Oaks Drive; and River Oaks Drive at East Lake Drive for approximately 200 feet northwest along River Oaks Drive.

“These recovery funds are critical to improving local infrastructure that will protect lives, homes and businesses from future storms," Bush said. "We continue to work with our partners in communities across the region to leverage these resources efficiently and effectively to benefit Texans affected by Hurricane Harvey."
