The City of Shenandoah is planning to cut budget requests from the City Council in response to a decline in the city’s generated revenue due to the COVID-19 shutdown.
The Texas Comptroller’s Office released sales tax data showing an approximate 32% decline in revenue for April, reports Community Impact Newspaper.
Shenandoah Finance Director Lisa Wasner told Community Impact the city has seen a decrease in revenue between March and April of approximately $308,000 compared to the same time last year. Wasner also said that the year-to-date difference is $266,000, because earlier months had higher revenue to help offset the losses.
"It has changed how we are budgeting this year," Wasner told Community Impact. "We had to go back to the drawing board. Each department had to look at their budgets, and we have been monitoring the best way to adapt to this."
