The Farm to Market Road 1960 corridor has been on a downward trajectory in terms of economic activities over the past few decades, but the Houston Northwest Chamber of Commerce hopes to reverse this trajectory.
The Chamber of Commerce has signed a contract that aims to create and administer a management district along FM 1960 between U.S. Highway 249 and Interstate 45. According to Community Impact, this contract is worth $60,000 and will be funded by the Chamber of Commerce’s development fund, Grow Northwest. This contract has been awarded to an economic development firm Hawes Hill and Associates. This firm will help in the creation of this project.
The management district hopes to pull FM 1960 out of the economic rut by a funding mechanism and will provide services like landscaping, law enforcement and nuisance abatement. Chamber President Bobby Lieb said in an earlier statement that there has been negative development in retail traffic in the region, as fewer people are willing to invest in FM 1960 and it has fallen into an economic rut.
He further said that strip centers have been abandoned by the authorities and have fallen prey to vandals, which has further led to a decline in investment in the area. He believes his project will turn the tables in favor of FM 1960 and investors will be able to invest here with renewed confidence.
