U.S. Rep. Wesley Hunt (R-Tomball) has proposed a new constitutional amendment that would require members of Congress to pass a basic civics test before assuming office. This proposal, known as the Congressional Civics Act, was introduced by Hunt in an exclusive report by Blaze Media. The bill aims to ensure that elected officials have a fundamental understanding of the U.S. Constitution and American history, similar to the requirements for naturalized citizens.

Hunt emphasized the importance of this knowledge for safeguarding American values, stating, “That understanding is essential to protecting the foundation of American values.” He further noted, “When history is forgotten, it is destined to repeat itself.”

Wesley Hunt has been serving in the U.S. Congress representing Texas’s 38th District since 2023. Prior to his current role, he won elections against Duncan Klussmann in 2022 and Melissa McDonough in 2024 with significant margins.
