Tom Oliverson, M.D., a Republican who has represented Texas’s 130th House district since 2017, recently shared several posts on his social media account commenting on tobacco alternatives and the federal 340B drug pricing program.
On May 8, 2026, Oliverson remarked on the classification of certain products as tobacco alternatives, posting: “So the fact that they are sold as a replacement for tobacco products is the tie that binds. Interesting. “
Shortly after, he questioned the wisdom of taking certain actions simply because they are possible, stating: “Just because we can do a thing, doesn’t mean we should. “ (May 8, 2026).
In another post from the same day, Oliverson addressed aspects of the federal 340B drug pricing program, focusing on its financial implications for privately insured patients and employers. He wrote: “This the part of 340B few talk about: the wealth transfer in this giveaway is not from government, but from employers and patients with private insurance who accidentally find themselves at a 340B facility. Anyone check out how many oncology clinics and cancer hospitals are” (May 8, 2026).
Oliverson was elected to represent Texas’s 130th House district in 2017 after Allen Fletcher. As a legislator and physician, he has regularly commented on health policy issues affecting both public programs and private insurance holders.
