Tom Oliverson, M.D., a Republican who has represented Texas’s 130th House district since 2017, used his Twitter account this week to share opinions on healthcare policy and the role of physicians in public office.
On May 6, Oliverson posted: “Yes, and this is why more physicians must run for public office. Advocating will only do so much. Physician lawmakers have a unique opportunity to fix healthcare problem legislatively. Run Doctor Run!!”
The following day, he commented on ongoing legislative discussions regarding healthcare affordability. On May 7, Oliverson wrote: “On day two of our Healthcare affordability committee meeting, there was a good discussion started by Chairman @RepJamesFrank on MLR and how it has failed us. Here @wendellpotter adds to the discussion after @zackcooperYale released his excelled NYT editorial earlier this week.”
Later that same day, Oliverson addressed the issue of facility fees charged by doctors’ offices. He stated: “The doctor office facility fees must go. It is a complete fleecing of American patients. And it is growing, because of course it is making piles of money in a completely unique practice environment. Ban them now before it’s too late!”
Oliverson has served as a state lawmaker since being elected in 2017 to replace Allen Fletcher in Texas’s 130th House district.
