Congressman Dan Crenshaw has reintroduced the ATF Accountability Act, a bipartisan bill aimed at limiting the authority of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives (ATF). The legislation seeks to provide firearm manufacturers with a fair process for appealing ATF decisions.
"The ATF has a long history of arbitrary decision-making that burdens law-abiding gun owners, small businesses, and firearm manufacturers with inconsistent and unpredictable regulations," said Congressman Crenshaw. "My legislation ensures that manufacturers have a fair, transparent appeals process when the ATF makes unilateral and overreaching decisions. This is about restoring accountability and preventing bureaucratic overreach from infringing on the Second Amendment."
The bill proposes several key changes:
- It establishes an appeals process for firearm manufacturers to challenge ATF determinations.
- It limits the ATF's ability to impose new regulations without due process or congressional oversight.
- It aims to protect small businesses from financial and legal challenges caused by arbitrary decisions.
The legislation has been reintroduced with bipartisan support, indicating widespread concern over regulatory fairness. Recent actions by the ATF have prompted this move, particularly regarding regulations like the pistol brace ban.
The bill has been sent to the House Judiciary Committee for review.
