Houston has launched a program to help both residents and restaurants in the city.

The program, funded by the funds made available by the CARES Act, will pay restaurants and catering companies around the city to cook and prepare meals for the city's residents in need. This operation will produce up to 20,000 meals per week under the coordination of local caterers and 15 different restaurants.

“COVID-19 continues to impact Houstonians’ ability to meet basic needs and provide for their families," Mayor Sylvester Turner said. "This program will not only support local restaurants and their employees during the end of a very challenging year, but also will provide much-needed meals to Houstonians experiencing financial distress.”

To participate in the program, restaurants must be from select ZIP codes that ensure they are local.
