City of Bellaire issued the following announcement on Feb. 18.
Please NO plastic bags of any kind in RECYCLING! The bags and contents will be trashed!
Food is one of the worst contaminants in the paper recycling process. Grease and oil contaminants can cause an entire recycling batch to be ruined. This is the reason why food-contaminated paper items are non-recyclable (used paper plates, used napkins, used paper towels, etc.).
