Cypress-Fairbanks ISD issued the following announcement on Jan. 23.
The Houston Livestock Show & Rodeo (HLSR) visited Horne Elementary School on Jan. 17 as dozens of RodeoHouston speakers and committee members spoke to students about various aspects of the rodeo and Texas history.
The purpose of the speakers committee is to contact local businesses, service clubs and schools to offer speaker services to promote interest in the HLSR and share information about agriculture, education, entertainment and western heritage. Topics that speakers shared with students included animals at the rodeo, rodeo clowns, traditional cattle drive and cowboy songs and traditional western dances.
Horne hosted breakfast and lunch for speakers and students and teachers were encouraged to dress in their best western attire.
RodeoHouston’s visit to Horne was their first to the school. Tracey Bennett, Horne principal, said the event was a success.
“We were so fortunate to be selected to host the HLSR speakers this year,” Bennett said. “Horne was transformed into a western wonderland where our students engaged in learning about the history of the rodeo, as well as its traditions. It was a truly amazing experience.”
