Rep. Dan Crenshaw, currently serving in the U.S. Congress representing Texas’ 2nd district, shared his perspectives on healthcare and welfare policy through a series of tweets on June 5, 2025.
In one tweet, Crenshaw addressed concerns regarding a nursing home staffing mandate. He stated that “They say 13,300 will die if we repeal a nursing home staffing mandate. But that mandate isn’t funded, and many nursing homes, especially in rural areas, can’t meet it. Keeping it would force closures. Repealing it actually keeps care available.”
Another tweet from Crenshaw discussed the activities of non-working Medicaid recipients according to data from the American Enterprise Institute (AEI). He noted that “According to @AEI, non-working Medicaid recipients currently spend: – Over 4 hours a day on TV and video games – Just 22 minutes a day looking for work We’re not pulling the rug out, we’re handing people a ladder. And yes, it may require logging off of the Xbox for a few hours.”
Additionally, Crenshaw explained the rationale behind a proposed work requirement provision for certain benefit recipients. He remarked that “The work requirement provision is simple: If you’re healthy, not in school, and have no kids, work, volunteer or train 20 hours a week to keep benefits. According to @Paragon_Inst, 81% of Americans think that sounds fair.”
Dan Crenshaw has served in Congress since replacing Ted Poe in 2019 and continues to reside in Humble after being born in Aberdeen, Scotland.
