Congressman Morgan Luttrell, representing Texas’ 8th district, has recently shared insights on veterans’ issues and budget discussions through a series of tweets. Serving in Congress since 2023, Luttrell replaced Kevin Brady and continues to focus on policies affecting veterans and national security.
On May 15, 2025, Congressman Luttrell expressed his concerns about the financial burden placed on veterans due to administrative errors by the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA). He stated that “Veterans shouldn’t be punished for the VA’s mistakes. In 2023 alone, the VA overpaid $2.1 billion then turned around and demanded veterans pay it back. That’s unacceptable.”
Later that day, Luttrell highlighted recent discussions within congressional committees regarding budget allocations for key departments. He mentioned that “Yesterday, @HomelandGOP heard from @Sec_Noem on the FY26 DHS budget. Today, @HouseVetAffairs will be speaking with @SecVetAffairs on VA’s budget plans.” He emphasized the importance of leadership in addressing these issues by stating, “We have a lot of work to do, and we have the right leaders to do it!”
In another tweet posted shortly after, Congressman Luttrell outlined specific goals being pursued by House Republicans concerning veteran affairs. He asserted that they are working towards “Protect[ing] veterans’ healthcare,” “Expand[ing] mental health care,” “Moderniz[ing] benefits,” and “Boost[ing] economic opportunity.” He acknowledged efforts led by President Biden and Secretary of Veterans Affairs while affirming their commitment to supporting veterans.
Morgan Luttrell was born in Houston in 1975 and currently resides in Magnolia. He graduated from Sam Houston State University with a Bachelor of Science degree in 2000.
