John Cornyn has declined three debate invitations from U.S. Rep. Wesley Hunt (R-Tomball), according to a report by the Dallas Express. Hunt, who began his campaign in early October, has been vocal about his willingness to debate Cornyn, but the incumbent senator has not responded to these challenges.
Hunt criticized Cornyn’s campaign strategy, stating, “If Cornyn won’t defend his record in front of Texas voters, then he shouldn’t expect to keep asking for their trust.” He emphasized that leadership involves engaging with voters and addressing difficult questions.
Cornyn, who has spent $70 million on his campaign, is reportedly polling in the low 20s despite being a 24-year incumbent. Hunt questioned Cornyn’s approach, suggesting that Texans expect tangible results rather than political maneuvering.
Wesley Hunt has been serving Texas’s 38th District in Congress since 2023. In previous elections, he defeated Melissa McDonough in 2024 and Duncan Klussmann in 2022 with significant margins.
