Representative Dan Crenshaw, a Republican from Texas who has consistently secured his seat in Congress through multiple election cycles, recently used social media to comment on ongoing international negotiations and security concerns near the U.S.-Mexico border.
On August 5, 2025, Crenshaw addressed the final negotiations for the Global Plastics Treaty taking place in Geneva. He criticized the Biden administration’s approach, stating in a post, “Right now in Geneva, the UN is entering the final negotiations for the Global Plastics Treaty. During prior negotiation rounds, the Biden admin saw this as an opportunity to cap plastic production and kill U.S. jobs, all while letting China off the hook—basically the same” (August 5, 2025). The post was accompanied by a separate link shared moments later: https://t.co/Se3SW1n1uv (August 5, 2025).
The following day, Crenshaw turned his attention to security issues related to cartel violence in northern Mexico. In another tweet posted on August 6, he wrote: “Less than 20 miles across the border from McAllen, Texas, an officer with the Mexican Attorney General’s office was executed by cartels. Prosecution rates in Mexico are at about 1% – and events like this only make it more challenging for them to do their job. This has to be https://t.co/KBI9CJ7pWt”.
Crenshaw represents Texas’s 2nd congressional district and has demonstrated strong electoral support over recent years. He won re-election in 2018 against Todd Litton with approximately 53% of the vote; in subsequent elections he maintained or increased his margin of victory—defeating Sima Ladjevardian in 2020 with about 56%, Robin Fulford in 2022 with nearly 66%, and Peter Filler in 2024 with almost 66% as well.
His recent statements come amid ongoing global discussions regarding environmental policy and persistent challenges related to violence along the U.S.-Mexico border.
