Representative Dan Crenshaw has used his social media platform to comment on the ongoing government shutdown debate, criticizing Democratic lawmakers and highlighting divisions within their party.
On September 29, 2025, Crenshaw posted, “The mask slips when they don’t get their $1.5 trillion spending wishlist.”
The following day, he expanded on his critique, writing on September 30, 2025: “Democrats can’t escape owning this shutdown. House Republicans passed a clean temporary funding bill 11 days ago to keep the government open for 7 weeks. Avoid chaos, keep negotiating. But Democrats love chaos. They won’t vote for it (we need 60 votes in the Senate), unless”
Later that same day, Crenshaw pointed to polling data about public support among Democrats regarding the shutdown: “Only 47% of Democrats support a shutdown over their party’s demands. Even their own base thinks they’re unreasonable.”
Dan Crenshaw is a Republican member of Congress who has consistently won re-election since first securing his seat in 2018. In the most recent general election of 2024, he defeated Peter Filler with approximately 65.7% of the vote; previous victories include wins over Robin Fulford in 2022 and Sima Ladjevardian in 2020 by similar margins.
His recent statements reflect ongoing partisan disputes in Congress regarding federal spending and efforts to avoid a government shutdown, as well as broader debates over legislative priorities and negotiation tactics between the two major parties.
