Representative Dan Crenshaw, a Republican member of Congress, posted a series of statements on his X (formerly Twitter) account in October 2025, addressing the ongoing government shutdown and political discourse surrounding it.
On October 13, 2025, Crenshaw criticized Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer, writing, “Schumer knows he’s lying about this. He knows we need Democrat votes in the Senate to keep the government open. But he thinks you’re too stupid to know that. He thinks you are too stupid to know this shutdown is 100% caused by a Democrat party tantrum. If he’s getting away with https://t.co/aTsSxcdFcy”.
Later that day, Crenshaw commented on the reaction to Columbus Day, stating, “Because the woke left always wants to freak out on Columbus Day, here’s a great nuanced take from @benshapiro on why we can be smart enough to hold multiple thoughts in our head at once. https://t.co/CWV1e23HVz”.
On October 14, 2025, Crenshaw addressed claims about responsibility for the government shutdown, posting, “‘Republicans shut down the government,’ says guy whose party voted to shut it down, then voted eight more times to keep it that way, and continues to keep it closed. The Democrat talking points are exhausting at this point. No one is buying it. https://t.co/e8uTvIv9p9”.
Dan Crenshaw has represented Texas in Congress since 2019 and has consistently won re-election, most recently defeating Peter Filler in the 2024 general election with 65.7% of the vote. He previously won against Robin Fulford in 2022, Sima Ladjevardian in 2020, and Todd Litton in 2018, maintaining a strong electoral record throughout his tenure.
