Representative Dan Crenshaw, a Republican congressman from Texas, posted a series of statements on his social media account in early October 2025 criticizing Democratic lawmakers and addressing recent government shutdown events.
On October 1, 2025, Crenshaw addressed Representative Maxine Waters directly, writing, “Maxine, unless you’re dealing with literal dementia, I think you probably remember voting against our clean CR that passed the House. You people are in lie/spin/gaslight supermode like holy shit”. The same day, he asserted that “Democrats shut down the government because they care more about illegals than Americans.”
Continuing his commentary on October 2, 2025, Crenshaw criticized a former vice presidential candidate for misunderstanding Senate procedures: “The former VP candidate apparently skipped his civics class. Or he’s a liar. Or both. Ok Governor let me speak to you like you’re a child in a 6th grade U.S. Government class: YOU NEED 60 VOTES IN THE SENATE TO PASS A BUDGET. WHICH MEANS REPUBLICANS DON’T ACTUALLY HAVE FULL”.
Crenshaw has represented Texas in Congress since winning his first election in 2018 and has maintained strong support in subsequent races. In the most recent general election of 2024, he defeated Peter Filler with nearly two-thirds of the vote. He also won previous elections against Robin Fulford in 2022 and Sima Ladjevardian in 2020 by similar margins.
