Rep. Dan Crenshaw, a U.S. Congressman representing Texas’s 2nd district since 2019, posted a series of tweets on July 19, 2025, addressing both a local tragedy and recent federal developments concerning firearm regulations.
On July 19, Crenshaw highlighted a memorial for a young student who died during recent flooding. He wrote, “Yesterday evening, a beautiful ceremony honored Claire “Reese” Manchaca—a Caney Creek graduate and gifted architecture student at UTSA—who tragically lost her life in the July 4th floods in Kerr County. Reese had just completed her junior year and recently returned from studying https://t.co/9mEoqtnKyS” (July 19, 2025).
Later that day, Crenshaw addressed the Department of Justice’s decision regarding firearm accessory regulation. In two identical tweets posted hours apart, he stated: “The pistol brace rule is officially dead. Again. This week the DOJ dropped the Biden-era appeal to the pistol brace rule. I’ve been fighting this unjust violation of gun owners rights—especially disabled veterans who need braces to shoot—for years. This should be the end of” (July 19, 2025), and repeated: “The pistol brace rule is officially dead. Again. This week the DOJ dropped the Biden-era appeal to the pistol brace rule. I’ve been fighting this unjust violation of gun owners rights—especially disabled veterans who need braces to shoot—for years. This should be the end of” (July 19, 2025).
Crenshaw has represented Texas’s 2nd District since replacing Ted Poe in Congress in 2019 and resides in Humble after being born in Aberdeen, Scotland in 1984. He graduated from Tufts University with a Bachelor of Arts degree in 2006.
Pistol braces have been at the center of national debate over gun regulations and accessibility for disabled veterans. The Department of Justice’s decision not to pursue further appeals marks a significant moment for those advocating against restrictions on such firearm accessories.
